DESCRIPTION
Sikament®-520 BA (previously known as Sikament®-520 BA*) is a highly efficient dual-action liquid superplasticizer that provides excellent slump retention for extended periods. It is particularly suited for use in hot and tropical climates.

USES
Sikament®-520 BA serves as a superplasticizer for producing free-flowing concrete in various applications, including:

  • Slabs
  • Foundations
  • Walls
  • Columns
  • Piers
  • Slender components with dense reinforcement
  • Piles

It also acts as a water-reducing agent to produce high early-strength concrete, ideal for:

  • Pre-cast concrete elements
  • Pre-stressed concrete

  • Composition: Sulphonated naphthalene
  • Packaging: 1000 L flowbin, bulk supply available on request
  • Appearance / Color: Brown liquid
  • Shelf Life: 12 months from production date, if stored properly
  • Storage Conditions: Store in unopened, undamaged original packaging in dry conditions, at temperatures between +5°C and +45°C. Protect from direct sunlight and freezing.
  • Density: ~1.20 kg/l (+25°C)
  • Chloride Ion Content: Nil (EN 934-2)

TECHNICAL INFORMATION
Concreting Guidance
Follow standard concrete production and placement practices when using Sikament®-520 BA. Refer to relevant standards for guidance. Proper curing is crucial, especially in high temperatures, to avoid plastic and drying shrinkage. Sika® Antisol® products or wet hessian can be used as curing agents.

APPLICATION INFORMATION

  • Recommended Dosage: 0.8 – 2.5% by weight of binder. Higher dosages may be used depending on mix design, raw materials, climate, and concrete requirements. Trial mixes are recommended to determine the exact dosage.
  • Compatibility: Sikament®-520 BA is compatible with all types of Portland cement (OPC and SRC) and concretes containing pozzolanic materials like GGBS, PFA, micro-silica, as well as the following Sika products:
    • SikaPump®
    • Sika® FerroGard®-901
    • SikaFume®
    • SikaFiber®
    • Sika Aer®
    • Sika® Stabilizer
    • Sika®-1 WT
    • Sika® WT-10

Trial mixes should be conducted to ensure the required performance when combining Sikament®-520 BA with other products. For further guidance, consult Sika Technical Department.

Dispensing
Sikament®-520 BA should be added to the gauging water or simultaneously with the gauging water into the concrete mixer at the batching plant. It should not be added directly to the dry mix. For optimal water reduction, mix thoroughly for at least 60 seconds. Any additional gauging water should be added after two-thirds of the wet mixing time to avoid excess water in the concrete.
