DESCRIPTION
Sikaflex®-265 is a single-component elastic adhesive designed for bonding and sealing joints in commercial vehicle glazing applications. It offers excellent weather resistance, making it highly suitable for use in exterior joints. Additionally, Sikaflex®-265 is compatible with Sika’s black-primerless bonding process and can be accelerated using Sika’s Booster system.
PRODUCT BENEFITS
- Ideal for both bonding and sealing
- Complies with EN45545-2 R1/R7 HL3 standards
- Excellent weather resistance
- Solvent-free
- Low odor
- Excellent processing and tooling properties
AREAS OF APPLICATION
Sikaflex®-265 is intended for direct glazing applications in both OEM and repair markets. Due to its superior tooling properties and enhanced weathering resistance, it is suitable for use in exterior joints. Before applying Sikaflex®-265 on materials that may be prone to stress cracking, it is recommended to consult the manufacturer and perform adhesion and compatibility tests on the original substrates. This product is designed for use by experienced professionals only.
CURE MECHANISM
Sikaflex®-265 cures by reacting with atmospheric moisture. At lower temperatures, where the moisture content of the air is generally lower, the curing process occurs more slowly.
CHEMICAL RESISTANCE
Sikaflex®-265 is generally resistant to fresh water, seawater, diluted acids, and diluted caustic solutions. It is temporarily resistant to fuels, mineral oils, and vegetable and animal fats and oils. However, it is not resistant to organic acids, glycolic alcohol, concentrated mineral acids, caustic solutions, or solvents.
METHOD OF APPLICATION
Surface Preparation
Surfaces should be clean, dry, and free from grease, oil, dust, and contaminants. Surface treatment is crucial for ensuring a durable bond and should be selected based on the nature of the substrates. Refer to the latest version of the Sika® Pre-treatment Chart for recommendations. These suggestions must be verified through testing on the original materials.
Application
Sikaflex®-265 can be processed between 10°C and 35°C, though changes in reactivity and application properties should be considered. The ideal temperature for both the substrate and sealant is between 15°C and 25°C. Be aware that the viscosity of the adhesive increases at lower temperatures, so it is advisable to condition the adhesive to ambient temperature before use. For a uniform bondline thickness, apply the adhesive in the shape of a triangular bead (see figure 1). Sikaflex®-265 can be applied using manual, pneumatic, or electric piston guns, as well as pump equipment. In hot and humid climates, the open time is shorter, and the parts must be installed within this time frame. Do not bond parts once the adhesive has formed a skin.
For assistance with selecting and setting up an appropriate pump system, contact the Sika Industry System Engineering Department.
Tooling and Finishing
Tooling and finishing must be completed within the product’s skin time. Sika® Tooling Agent N is recommended for this process. Other finishing agents should be tested for compatibility before use.
