MasterSeal® 501 – Surface Applied Capillary Waterproofing Coating for Concrete and Mortar | MCT CHEMICALS
MasterSeal 501 is a waterproofing coating designed to offer a permanent solution to water leakage, seepage, or ingress in concrete structures and other cement-based substrates. By forming insoluble crystals within the capillaries that carry water, it effectively blocks the passage of water, ensuring long-term water tightness for the structure’s lifespan.
Typical Applications
- Water Retaining Structures:
- Water tanks
- Reservoirs
- Swimming pools
- Water treatment facilities
- Foundations
- Dams
- Canals
- Concrete pipes
- Harbours
- Sea defense walls
- Water Excluding Structures:
- Basements
- Tunnels
- Inspection pits
- Retaining walls
- Lift shafts
- Bridge decks
- Jetties
- Pontoons
- Construction joints
Standard Compliance
- BS 1881 Part 124: 1988
Advantages
- Permanent Waterproofing: Forms an integral part of the structure to which it is applied, offering a long-lasting waterproof barrier that will not delaminate, peel, or wear away.
- Corrosion Protection: Safeguards concrete and reinforcement from corrosive substances carried by water.
- Self-Healing: The crystalline action is reactivated when it comes into contact with water, providing additional dormant protection.
- Effective Under Water Pressure: Works against both positive and negative water pressure.
- Non-Toxic: Does not taint the water or surrounding environment.
Packaging
MasterSeal 501 is available in 25kg paper bags.
Coverage
- Two-Coat Slurry Application:
- MasterSeal 501: 0.8-1 kg/m² per coat
- Dry Shake Application:
- MasterSeal 501 (Unmixed): 1 kg/m
Composition
MasterSeal 501 is made from a blend of moisture-activated chemicals, high-quality silica aggregates, and selected cements.
How It Works
MasterSeal 501 reacts with moisture and free lime in the substrate, creating a network of insoluble crystals that form a continuous barrier within the concrete’s capillary structure. This crystalline development blocks water movement but allows air and water vapor to pass through, enabling the structure to “breathe.” The crystals penetrate as deeply as the water reaches within the substrate. Waterproofing becomes fully effective after 5-7 days of application.
MasterSeal 501 is effective against both positive and negative water pressure and can be applied to either the internal or external surfaces of structures. However, for optimal results, the application is recommended wherever possible on the external surface.
