Application Procedure
Surface Preparation
Ensure the surfaces to be coated are structurally sound and clean. Remove any traces of previous coatings, paint stains, laitance, oils, or contaminants that could affect the bond of MasterSeal 583. Suitable cleaning methods include high-pressure water cleaning, sandblasting, or grit blasting. Avoid aggressive chemical or mechanical cleaning methods. After cleaning, thoroughly wash the surfaces with clean water to remove dust and debris. Any holes or cracks should be repaired using MasterSeal 590 or MasterEmaco repair mortars before applying MasterSeal 583.
Mixing
MasterSeal 583 is ready for use, requiring only water to achieve a fluid consistency.
- Mixing ratio: Approx. 5.4 liters of clean water per 25 kg of powder (5.0 – 5.8 liters depending on ambient conditions)
- Pour 25 kg of powder into 5.4 liters of clean water and mix mechanically with a low-speed mortar mixer (400 – 600 rpm) until the mixture is smooth and free of lumps.
- Let the mixture sit for 5-10 minutes to allow saturation and remix, adding liquid if needed to adjust consistency. Ensure you do not exceed the maximum liquid requirement.
Application
Do not apply MasterSeal 583 to frozen surfaces or when the temperature is below +5°C, or if it is expected to fall below +5°C in the next 24 hours. Avoid direct sunlight during application.
- Apply the product to a pre-dampened substrate. More dampening is required for porous substrates than for dense ones, but avoid any standing water on the surface.
- Apply the mixture using a semi-hard brush or spray equipment. The mixed material must be used within 45 minutes, especially in hot weather.
- Typical layer thickness: 1.0 – 1.5 mm
First Coat
Firmly apply MasterSeal 583 to the pre-dampened, prepared surface. After completing a few square meters, smooth the surface in one direction for a more uniform appearance. Avoid spreading the material too thin. If the material starts to drag or clump, re-dampen the surface instead of adding more liquid.
Second Coat
Allow the first coat to cure overnight before applying the second coat. Dampen the first coat before application, removing any excess water or condensation. Apply the second coat at right angles to the first for optimal coverage. While MasterSeal 583 can be sprayed, brushing it well into the substrate afterward ensures proper adhesion. A third coat can be applied to improve the aesthetic finish.
Consumption
For a two-layer application, the estimated consumption is around 3.0 to 4.5 kg/m², depending on the roughness of the substrate.
Cleaning of Tools
Tools and any spills can be cleaned with water while the product is still uncured.
