SikaFerroGard-901 is a high-performance, corrosion-inhibiting liquid specifically designed for the protection and maintenance of reinforced concrete structures. It is a penetrating, silicate-based solution that helps protect steel reinforcement from corrosion by migrating into the concrete and forming a protective layer on the surface of the steel. SikaFerroGard-901 is formulated to work effectively in both new and existing concrete structures, offering long-term corrosion protection.
Uses
Sika Ferrogard-901 is specifically formulated to protect reinforced concrete at risk of corrosion, particularly from chloride-induced damage. Typical applications include:
- Concrete roads
- Bridges
- Tunnels
- Retaining walls
- Industrial plants
- Multi-story car parks
Advantages
By using Sika Ferrogard®-901, both anodic and cathodic reactions of the electrochemical corrosion process are reduced. The product forms a protective film on the steel reinforcement, slowing the onset of corrosion and decreasing its rate. Sika Ferrogard®-901 combines organic corrosion inhibitors, offering the following benefits:
- Effective corrosion protection for embedded reinforcing steel, particularly from chloride exposure
- Guards against the harmful effects of reinforcement corrosion
- Does not negatively affect the properties of fresh or hardened concrete
- Neutral to hydrogen embrittlement of prestressed steel, meaning it neither promotes nor mitigates hydrogen embrittlement of prestressed steel
Technical Data
- Base: Organic and inorganic nitrogen-containing substances
- Appearance/Color: Green liquid
- Density: 1.06 kg/L
- pH Value: 10 ± 1
- Packaging: Available in 5 kg and 20 kg pails, and 200 kg drums (bulk tank options available upon request)
- Storage Conditions/Shelf Life: 12 months from the production date, when stored properly in sealed, undamaged containers, at temperatures between +1°C and +35°C, away from direct sunlight and frost.
Application
- Recommended Dosage: 12 kg per cubic meter of concrete
- Addition: Sika Ferrogard®-901 is added to the gauging water or directly into the concrete mixer. It can also be introduced into the transit mixer at the point of discharge, with at least 1 minute of additional mixing per cubic meter of concrete. Ensure the concrete has a uniform consistency before discharging. The dosage of Sika Ferrogard®-901 should be considered when adjusting the water content for the desired water/cement (W/C) ratio.
- Concrete Placing: Sika Ferrogard®-901 typically produces high-quality concrete. Standard best practices for concrete manufacturing and placement must be followed, including proper curing of the concrete.
- Compatibility: Sika Ferrogard®-901 can be combined with the following Sika® products:
- Sikament® superplasticizers
- Sika Fro®-V5-A
- Silica fume-based products from the Sikacrete®/Sikafume® range
- Sika Retarder® and Sika Retardol®-25
It is always recommended to conduct pre-trials with these combinations to ensure the desired performance and application characteristics.
Important Notes
- Frozen Sika Ferrogard®-901 can be reused after slowly thawing it at room temperature and stirring thoroughly.
- All technical data provided is based on laboratory tests. Actual results may vary depending on site-specific conditions.
