Description
Sikaflex®-252 White is a one-component, polyurethane-based structural adhesive designed for heavy-duty bonding applications. Offering exceptional strength and durability, this high-performance adhesive is ideal for bonding a wide variety of materials, including metals, plastics, wood, and composites. Sikaflex®-252 White features a smooth, white finish, making it especially suitable for applications where aesthetics are important. Known for its high tensile strength, excellent adhesion, and resistance to harsh conditions, this adhesive is ideal for both interior and exterior use, providing a reliable bond for demanding industrial, automotive, and construction applications.
Usage:
Sikaflex®-252 White is used in a wide range of bonding and structural applications, including:
- Automotive Industry: Bonding and assembly of automotive parts and components such as body panels, trims, and accessories.
- Industrial Applications: Structural bonding of metals, plastics, wood, and composites in machinery, equipment, and appliance manufacturing.
- Construction: Bonding of construction materials like wood, metal, and plastic in structural and non-structural applications.
- Transportation: Used for bonding components in trailers, buses, and railcars.
- Furniture: Ideal for bonding wooden parts in furniture assembly.
- Marine: Suitable for bonding components in marine environments, where the adhesive must withstand high humidity and temperature variations.
Application:
- Surface Preparation:
- Ensure all bonding surfaces are clean, dry, and free of contaminants such as grease, dust, oil, and old adhesives. Use a suitable cleaner or solvent to remove any residues. For optimal adhesion, roughen smooth surfaces as necessary.
- Mixing:
- Sikaflex®-252 White is a one-component adhesive and does not require mixing. Simply cut the nozzle to the desired size and attach it to the cartridge. It is ready to use once dispensed from the cartridge.
- Application:
- Apply Sikaflex®-252 White directly to one of the surfaces using a caulking gun. For even distribution, spread the adhesive evenly across the surface. Press the parts together firmly, ensuring adequate contact between the adhesive and the substrates.
- Tooling and Adjustment:
- Tool the adhesive immediately after application to ensure a smooth and uniform bond. For applications requiring gap filling, make sure the adhesive is applied to fill any voids between the bonded surfaces.
- Curing Time:
- The adhesive begins curing once exposed to moisture in the air. At room temperature (23°C / 73°F), Sikaflex®-252 White typically forms a skin within 1 hour and reaches full curing within 24-48 hours, depending on the thickness of the application and environmental conditions.
- Post-Application:
- After curing, the adhesive will provide a strong, durable bond. Clean any excess adhesive while it is still uncured using an appropriate solvent (such as isopropyl alcohol) or a suitable tool. Once cured, the bond is highly resistant to impacts, vibrations, and environmental conditions.
Benefits:
- High Strength Bonding: Offers superior bonding strength for structural applications, ensuring long-lasting performance even under heavy loads.
- Versatile Adhesion: Bonds a wide range of materials including metals, plastics, composites, and wood without the need for a primer in most cases.
- White Finish: The white color makes it ideal for aesthetic applications, providing a clean, professional look after application.
- Excellent Resistance: Resistant to water, weathering, UV exposure, and temperature fluctuations, making it suitable for both interior and exterior use.
- Easy to Apply: One-component formula that requires no mixing, offering ease of use with a standard caulking gun.
- Durable and Flexible: Provides a flexible bond that accommodates movement and thermal expansion without losing adhesion or integrity.
- No Solvents: Solvent-free and low in VOCs, ensuring a safer working environment.
Notes:
- Safety Precautions: Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including gloves and safety glasses, when applying Sikaflex®-252 White. Ensure good ventilation during application.
- Storage: Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Ensure the container is tightly sealed when not in use.
- Shelf Life: When stored correctly in unopened packaging, Sikaflex®-252 White has a shelf life of up to 12 months.
- Not Suitable for Immersion: Sikaflex®-252 White is not recommended for applications involving continuous immersion in water. For wet or underwater applications, consult the technical datasheet for more suitable products.
Sikaflex®-252 White is the perfect choice for high-strength, durable bonding in demanding industrial, automotive, and construction applications. Its versatility, ease of use, and excellent performance make it an ideal adhesive for both professional and DIY projects.
