Description
Sikagard®-6440 is a durable, thixotropic, rubber-based protective coating offering excellent rust-proofing and sound-deadening properties. After drying, it forms a tough coating that shields metal from impact and corrosion.
Product Benefits
- Easy to apply without dripping or running
- Excellent resistance to abrasion, impact, and road salt
- Multiple finishes can be achieved
- Strong adhesion performance
- Can be overpainted
- Excellent performance at low temperatures
- Free from heavy metals
- Retains flexibility when dry
Areas of Application
Sikagard®-6440 is used as a spray-applied anti-corrosion coating for the protection and repair of vulnerable painted vehicle parts such as door sills, wheel arches, front and rear aprons, and underbody components. It offers strong adhesion to a variety of paints, metal primers, metals, and PVC.
Chemical Resistance
Sikagard®-6440 is resistant to water, seawater, salt spray, oil, bases, and acids.
Method of Application
- Surface Preparation: Ensure surfaces are clean, dry, and free from rust, dust, and grease. Bare metal should be pre-treated for enhanced corrosion resistance.
- Application: Apply Sikagard®-6440 using an air-mix gun with 3-6 bar air pressure. Shake the can thoroughly before use. Apply from approximately 25 cm away in a grid motion to build up a continuous layer. It can be applied in thick layers without dripping. Allow layers to dry between applications if needed. Avoid spraying parts such as the brake, engine, or exhaust system.
- Removal: Uncured Sikagard®-6440 can be cleaned from tools with Sika® Remover-208 or another suitable solvent. Once dry, it must be removed mechanically. For skin contact, wash immediately with Sika® Cleaner-350H or a suitable industrial hand cleaner and water—avoid using solvents on skin.
Overpainting
Sikagard®-6440 can be overpainted after drying for 24 hours with conventional paint systems. The drying time can be shortened by using accelerated drying at a maximum of 60°C. Due to the variety of available paints, adhesion and compatibility tests are necessary.
