Sikasil® SG-18 is a high-modulus, neutral-curing, 1-component structural silicone adhesive, designed for structural glazing applications.

Areas of Application

Sikasil® SG-18 is ideal for use in structural glazing and other demanding industrial applications. This product is recommended for professional and experienced users only. Prior testing with original substrates and conditions is necessary to ensure proper adhesion and material compatibility.

Cure Mechanism

Sikasil® SG-18 cures by reacting with moisture in the air. At lower temperatures, the air’s moisture content tends to be lower, causing the curing process to proceed more slowly.

Method of Application

• Surface Preparation: Ensure surfaces are clean, dry, and free of grease, oil, and dust. Surface treatment may vary depending on the substrate and is crucial for a strong, durable bond.
• Application: The optimal temperature for both the substrate and sealant is between 15°C and 25°C. Sikasil® SG-18 can be applied using hand, pneumatic, or electric-driven piston guns, as well as pump equipment. For advice on selecting and setting up the right pump system, consult Sika’s System Engineering Department. Joints should be correctly sized based on the adhesive’s technical properties and the adjacent materials, exposure conditions, and external loads. Avoid joints deeper than 15 mm.
• Tooling and Finishing: Tooling should be completed within the skin time of the adhesive. Press the adhesive into the joint flanks for good wetting of the bonding surface without using tooling agents.

Removal

• Uncured Sikasil® SG-18 can be removed from tools and equipment using Sika® Remover-208 or another suitable solvent. Once cured, it can only be removed mechanically. Clean exposed skin immediately using Sika® Cleaner-350H wipes or suitable industrial hand cleaners with water. Do not use solvents on skin.

Overpainting

Sikasil® SG-18 cannot be overpainted.

Application Limits
Sika provides compatible structural glazing and window bonding solutions, often used together in the Sikasil® SG, IG, WS, and WT series. For compatibility details between Sikasil® products and other Sika solutions, contact Sika’s Technical Department. All materials in direct or indirect contact with Sikasil® SG-18, such as gaskets, tapes, and sealants, must be approved by Sika in advance. If using multiple reactive sealants, allow the first one to fully cure before applying the next. Sikasil® products for structural glazing or window bonding must be used only after detailed examination and written approval by Sika Industry.
