Uses
Sika® ViscoCrete®-3355 facilitates significant water reduction, ensuring excellent flowability with optimal cohesion and strong self-compacting behavior. It is suitable for the following types of concrete:
- High-flow concrete
- Self-compacting concrete (S.C.C.)
- Concrete with high water reduction (up to 30%)
- High-strength concrete
The combination of high-water reduction, superior flowability, and increased early strength offers clear advantages in the applications listed above.
Characteristics / Advantages
Sika® ViscoCrete®-3355 works by absorbing onto cement particles, creating a steric separation effect. Concrete mixed with this superplasticizer exhibits the following properties:
- Excellent flowability, reducing the effort required for placement and compaction
- Strong self-compacting characteristics
- Exceptional water reduction (greater than 25%), leading to high-density and strength concrete
- Enhanced early strength development
- Improved shrinkage and creep performance
- Slower carbonation rate
Sika® ViscoCrete®-3355 is chloride-free and does not contain ingredients that promote steel corrosion, making it suitable for reinforced and pre-stressed concrete. It provides extended workability, and, depending on mix design and material quality, self-compacting properties can be maintained for over 1 hour at 30°C.
Approvals / Standards
Sika® ViscoCrete®-3355 meets the requirements of ASTM C494; Type G.

Application Information
- Recommended Dosage:
- For soft plastic concrete: 0.3% – 1% by weight of binder
- For flowing and self-compacting concrete: 0.6% – 1.5% by weight of binder
- Higher dosages (up to 2%) can be used depending on mix design and concrete requirements
Pre-trials with local materials should be conducted to confirm the exact dosage.
Note: Dosages greater than 1.0% may cause set retardation with certain binders.
- Dispensing: Sika® ViscoCrete®-3355 should be added to the gauging water or poured simultaneously with it into the concrete mixer. For optimal water reduction, mix thoroughly for a minimum of 60 seconds. The remaining gauging water can be added after two-thirds of the wet mixing time to avoid excess water in the concrete.
- Compatibility: Sika® ViscoCrete®-3355 can be combined with many other Sika products, including:
- Sika Pump
- Sika Fume
- Sika Retarder and Sika Retardol-25
Trial mixes should be performed before combining products to ensure compatibility. For further advice, consult Sika’s technical services department.
