You need this when…

  • Grout cracking, powdering or washing out
  • Dirty, dark grout lines that will not clean
  • Water seeping through grout joints in a bathroom
  • New tiling ready for grouting

The work, step by step

General guidance based on the manufacturer data sheets. Site conditions differ: confirm the system with MCT before you start. Where we do not name a product, ask us and we will confirm the right one.

  1. Step 1: Wait, then clean the joints

Grout no sooner than 24 hours after fixing (SikaCeram-205 PK p.3). Joints must be clean and free of oil and grease. Remove cement laitance, dust and loose particles (SikaCeram-600 Tile Grout PK p.2).

  2. Step 2: Pick the colour and mix

SikaCeram-600 Tile Grout PK comes in 12 colours (SikaCeram-600 Tile Grout PK p.1). Dry areas: mix 0.3 L of water per 1 kg of powder (SikaCeram-600 Tile Grout PK p.2). Wet areas: pour 0.3 L of Sika Latex into the bucket first, then add the powder slowly. Mix for about 3 minutes with a slow mixer at 300–600 rpm (SikaCeram-600 Tile Grout PK p.2).

  3. Step 3: Fill the joints

Work the grout into the joints diagonally with a rubber trowel. Use it within about 1 hour. Never mix fresh material into an older mix (SikaCeram-600 Tile Grout PK p.2).

  4. Step 4: Sponge off

After about 10 minutes, wipe excess grout off the tiles with a damp sponge. Run the sponge along the joints to get an even depth (SikaCeram-600 Tile Grout PK p.2).

  5. Step 5: Protect while it hardens

No foot traffic for at least 24 hours (SikaCeram-600 Tile Grout PK p.2).

  6. Step 6: Remove grout haze safely

SikaCeram-951 Care Cleaner removes grout stains (SikaCeram-951 Care Cleaner p.1). It is acidic, at about pH 2 (SikaCeram-951 Care Cleaner p.1). Dilute 1:1 for normal stains, test a small area first, and rinse after 5 minutes (SikaCeram-951 Care Cleaner p.2). Never use strong acids to remove hardened grout (SikaCeram-600 Tile Grout PK p.2). On marble and granite, use SikaCeram-951 Multisurface Cleaner (SikaCeram-951 Multisurface Cleaner p.1).

Questions customers ask

Can cement grout be used in a bathroom?

Yes. It is listed for dry and wet areas. In wet areas, mix it with Sika Latex instead of water (SikaCeram-600 Tile Grout PK p.1, p.2). For showers and commercial kitchens, epoxy grout is listed (SikaCeram-850 Design p.1).

Can it be used outside?

Yes. It is listed for interior and exterior floors and walls (SikaCeram-600 Tile Grout PK p.1).

Which colours are there?

The data sheet lists 12 colours, including white, grey, ivory, beige, black, blue, pink, burgundy and three browns (SikaCeram-600 Tile Grout PK p.1).

How do I clean the cement film off the tiles?

Sponge off after about 10 minutes (SikaCeram-600 Tile Grout PK p.2). For haze left later, ask us before using any acidic cleaner: the grout data sheet warns against strong acids on hardened grout (SikaCeram-600 Tile Grout PK p.2). Do not use it on marble. Use the multisurface cleaner there (SikaCeram-951 Multisurface Cleaner p.1).
