Food, beverage & chemical floors

Dairies, bakeries, beverage plants, pharma and chemical areas need floors that resist hot water, steam cleaning, thermal shock and chemicals without tainting food. Polyurethane-cement screeds (PurCem, Ucrete) with coved upstands are the usual answer.

You need this when…

  • Epoxy floor cracking or debonding near ovens, fryers or hot washdown
  • Acid, milk or sugar spills eating into the concrete
  • Food-safety audit flags cracked or porous floors
  • Standing water and slippery floors in wet process areas

The work, step by step

General guidance based on the manufacturer data sheets. Site conditions differ: confirm the system with MCT before you start. Where we do not name a product, ask us and we will confirm the right one.

  1. Step 1: Check the slab

PurCem needs at least 25 N/mm² and 1.5 N/mm² pull-off, and can go onto concrete 7–10 days old or old damp concrete without priming (Sikafloor-20 PurCem LP p.4). Ucrete needs at least 30 N/mm²; allow at least 3 days for early concrete shrinkage (Sika Ucrete UD 200 p.6).

  2. Step 2: Cut anchor grooves and treat cracks

Form retaining grooves at all free edges, joints, columns and drains, twice the floor thickness in width and depth (Sikafloor-21 PurCem p.4). Pre-treat construction joints and static cracks with Sikadur or Sikafloor resins (p.4).

  3. Step 3: Choose the wearing layer by temperature

    Sikafloor-20 PurCem LP: HACCP-certified for food plants, works from −40 °C to +120 °C and is steam cleanable at 9 mm (p.1, p.2). Sika Ucrete UD 200: 6 mm for spills up to +80 °C, 9 mm up to +120 °C, 12 mm up to +130 °C (p.5). Sikafloor-21 PurCem is a self-smoothing, slip-resistant option (p.1).
